Alliance Focused Training

Alliance Focused Training (AFT) is an empirically based approach for helping therapists develop the skills to build and maintain a strong therapeutic alliance, which is an essential part of any effective treatment. AFT also helps therapists develop and refine their abilities to engage “hard to reach” patients and to work constructively with therapeutic impasses or alliance ruptures when they occur. Alliance-Focused Training also revitalizes and deepens everyday clinical work. Over the last 30 years our clinical research team has been at the forefront of the field in the development, evaluation and refinement of alliance-focused training approaches (click here for upcoming events). We offer lectures, workshops, and supervision (see below) for clinicians from diverse theoretical backgrounds and with varying levels of clinical experience and expertise. We also provide a range of different reading resources, training videos and clinical support tools.
