J. Christopher Muran, Ph.D.
Dr. Muran is Associate Dean and Full Professor at the Gordon F. Derner School of Psychology, Adelphi University, where he serves as training director for the doctoral program in clinical psychology. He completed postdoctoral training in cognitive therapy (University of Toronto) and psychoanalysis (New York University). He is a fellow of the American Psychological Association (APA Divisions 12 & 29) and serves on its Clinical Treatment Guidelines Advisory Steering Committee. He is also past-president of the Society for Psychotherapy Research (SPR) and past-editor of its journal Psychotherapy Research. He has been on the editorial boards for Journal of Consulting & Clinical Psychology and Clinical Psychology: Science & Practice. Since 1990, Dr. Muran has been Principal Investigator of the Psychotherapy Research Program at Mount Sinai Beth Israel and is on faculty at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. He has published several books, including Therapist Performance under Pressure: Negotiating Emotion, Difference and Rupture (2020; with Catherine Eubanks), The Therapeutic Alliance: An Evidence Based Guide to Practice (2010; with Jacques Barber), Dialogues in Difference: Diversity Studies in the Therapeutic Relationship (2007), Self-Relations in the Psychotherapy Process (2001), along with Negotiating the Therapeutic Alliance (2000; with Jeremy Safran). Catherine F. Eubanks, Ph.D. Dr. Eubanks is Associate Professor of clinical psychology at the Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology of Yeshiva University. She also serves as co-investigator of the Mount Sinai-Beth Israel Brief Psychotherapy Research Program and is on faculty at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. She received the Early Career Award from APF/Division 29 in 2018 and the Outstanding Early Career Achievement Award from the Society for Psychotherapy Research in 2015. She served as president of the Society for the Exploration of Psychotherapy Integration (SEPI) in 2019, and served as executive officer of the North American chapter of the Society for Psychotherapy Research from 2013–2018. Dr. Eubanks has previously served as an associate editor for Psychotherapy Research and is currently an associate editor for the Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology. She is the incoming co-editor of Psychotherapy Research. She also serves on the editorial boards of Psychotherapy Research and the Journal of Psychotherapy Integration. Dr. Eubanks developed the Rupture Resolution Rating System (3RS; with Chris Muran and Jeremy Safran) and is coauthor (with Chris Muran) of Therapist Performance under Pressure: Negotiating Emotion, Difference and Rupture (2020). Jeremy D. Safran, Ph.D.
Dr. Safran was Full Professor and former Director of Clinical Training at the New School for Social Research. He was also Senior Research Scientist at Mount Sinai Beth Israel, Clinical Professor at the New York University Postdoctoral Program in Psychotherapy & Psychoanalysis, and on the faculty of the Stephen A. Mitchell Center for Relational Studies. In addition, he was Co-Founder and Co-Chair of the Sandor Ferenczi Center at the New School for Social Research, and Past-President of the International Association for Psychoanalysis & Psychotherapy. Dr, Safran was a fellow of the American Psychological Association and was former Director of the Cognitive Therapy Unit at the Clarke Institute of Psychiatry, University of Toronto. He was the recipient of the international Society for Psychotherapy Research Distinguished Research Career Award, and the American Psychological Association Division 39 Award for Distinguished Contributions to Psychoanalytic Research.
